a jpg image. By pure accient i moved the mouse pointer accross the jpg
while the mouse button was depressed and noticed it moved. I tried
moving this to the apps dir and this time it moved without creating a
shortcut nor without the permissions error. I logged out of root and
then back as my sister and tried again and got the same results so she
appears to be fixed now. When time permits I am going to download other
apps and see if they have the same issues with installation so I am
reserving judgement as to where the problem lies. But bottom line this
should not be this hard to get goingor at least come with accurate+more
complete documentation.

In the Firefox dmg file, when opened, I have only one actual, movable icon
.... the big, uh, Firefox on the left, that says Firefox.app just below it.

Where did you get your download from???
