Re: One thing about Spotlight that truly SUCKS.

I was going to type "AppleScript", but I got as far as "App" when it choked.

That particular string is slower than the other things I was typing.
When I type "App" it shows "Ap" and the colored wheel starts spinning
for about 10 or 15 seconds. Then "App" shows with all the the found
items and it's instantaneous for the rest of the string "AppleScript."
This machine as Tiger 10.4.5 on it. Apple must have improved the search
algorithm with this release.

AJ,

[G4 400]

I was ready to eat my words. That seemed to be a challenge.

Click,
Type.
a p p (it stopped for about three seconds) then l e s c r i p t appeared.....Bing-o!

In less than 7(?) seconds it went though two drives, each with an full, bootable OS, and a combined 130-150Gig of data.

From the first "a" to my results it couldn't have been ten seconds.

For comparison purposes only...It was a few minute operation in Wxp (both have 1/2GigRam) but the Wbox has a P-4, 2.8Ghz!

I figured I'd really wax it? (I'm a Who fan and have loads of every type of 'Who' data on the 2drives) I was sure "The", alone, is sand in the gears.

Not bad. T h e W h o.....
I timed it - - - 18 seconds later it gave me 2,240 results.
Yeah, plenty were not 'related'...It was neat that it found a lot of stuff I forgot about. (saved .htm pages & .jpg images) Eighteen seconds...? 400Mhz?

Next...
The G4 is on a WORKGROUP, LAN?
Yep, it's faster to use Spotlight to search my Winboxes, on the LAN, than using their native search...

One thing - - - I must be missing it.....
How can is sort (filter) by size? I have: NAME, DATE, KIND, PEOPLE - - - (DRIVES, 'DATE - choices)....Am I blind or did they omit 'file size' as a filter?

Oh, I bumped to 10.4.5...I didn't notice that it made any difference w/Spotlight (one way or the other).
