In the thread, Arstechnica reviews MacBook Pro, on 3/8, we had this, to
which
you never responded:
========================================
Z: Not very impressive considering that the Dell is half the money.
ME: In an April 2004 review, a 9100 with a smaller hard drive listed for
$2786. Hardly half the money. NOW it's half the money, on eBay.
Z: Also the firewire transfer, 30 gigs in an hour, is painfully slow.
ME: I didn't see anything in the report about FireWire, other than the Mac
comes with only a 400.
Z: I did a 60 gig USB transfer in 15 minutes.
ME: I claim you're lying. Let's say you were using a metric values
instead
of powers of 2, even at USB 2.0's highest rate of 480Mb/s, you would
transfer
a max of 54 gig. And USB can't transfer 480 anyway, at a sustained rate
and
with overhead. Then, if you use kilo and mega as powers of two, the
numbers
get worse.
=========================================
Care to explain? If my math is off -- I just had my wee calculator and
the
back of an envelope -- let me know and I'll be a man and say I'm sorry.
All I know is, the transfer took 15 minutes.
Why don't you buy a Dell like mine and run a real time test, rather than
using empirical data.
I recall the post from a few weeks ago - did you lay awake nights for the
last couple of weeks mulling the numbers over?
