Well, lets see.... USB printer, USB camera, USB flash drive, USB
keyboard, USB mouse, USB scanner...oops, that's six... which two is it
that "most any one" leaves off, Lloyd? The mouse and the keyboard,
perhaps?

Edwin has unfortunately forgotten that the standard Mac keyboard has
two USB ports on it, which means that there's actually enough ports
available for his strawman.

Actually I didn't even come close to mentioning all the possible USB
devices that can be connected to a computer. I have seven USB 2.0
ports on my PC. I don't need to figure out how to create a spider web
arrangement to fit in what I need.

Granted, if the buyer goes "high end" with a wireless keyboard & mouse,
we would technically be short one USB port until we remember that there
is a Firewire port, and that high end buyers know that Scanners get
roughly a 30% I/O performance boost by switching,

The Mac Mini is supposed to be aimed at "switchers" who are going to
connect their existing equipment to it. It seems you've decided its
for buyers who are replacing all their old PC peripherals.

so for the informed
buyer, there's still no problem (ie, "no need for an external hub").

No problem, you don't need a hub, you just need to buy a new scanner?
Bwa ha ha ha!!! Hot damn, you're a dumb ass!

Similarly, no high end user would be found dead not using Firewire to
hook up an external HD,

So while the Mac Mini's lousy shared memory Intel graphics are being
discussed, it's an entry level computer that's only used for light
productivity tasks, but when the subject becomes the poor connectivity
of the Mac Mini, all of a sudden it's the machine for high end users?
ROTFLMAO!!!

and quality external HD's have two FW ports to
permit them to daisy-chain, so an external HD (or 2 or 3) could be
added to this strawman configuration without encountering any
additional port problems.

Speaking of strawmen, you forgot to add in the price of an external
Firewire HD. For some reason you stopped at $29 for the USB Hub.

For $50 more that the price of a Mac Mini Duo, I got two Firewire
ports, seven USB 2.0 ports, 1 GB of RAM, and a fast 250 GB HD so I
don't have to add on an external drive.

My PC came with 7 USB ports in addition to its 9-in-1 media reader that
needs one of the Mac Mini's fewer USB ports, if you pay extra to add it...

...its a whopping $29 for a D-Link USB 2.0 7-port hub.

Is the Firewire HD you were talking about above free? Is a media
reader free? How does that "high end" user, who you were saying will
have a Firewire scanner and Firewire external HD, get high end graphics
into the Mac Mini?

Please explain why this such a big concern: it can't be because of
form factor because you've already accepted the standard full sized PC
case. Perhaps its because $30 is the net take-home pay for almost a
full shift down at Wendy's burger emporium? ;-)

I see you're having the usual Mac Advocate difficulty in following a
discussion. This thread is all about how much more I got in my PC for
what a Mac offers for the same money.

... and the internal drive is
just fine for the market the machine is designed to fit.

That would be the market for stupid people who're happy to pay just
as much for a small, slow HD as they would for a fast, large HD.

Care to show the world any contemporary Dell, HP, Gateway, IBM/Lenovo
or Compaq laptop computers that uses a 3.5" hard drive?

Care to explain why you're mentioning laptops in a discussion about
desktop computers?

Sorry, but they don't exist in the marketplace, because people aren't
willing to pay less for more I/O performance when it functionally
destroys the desigh purpose of the product...you would be equally (and
spectacularly) unsuccessful in complaining about motorcycles under the
premise that they suck at transporting sheets of 4'x8' plywood.

So the design of the Mac Mini is the limitations of a laptop computer
without its mobility. Thanks for clearing that up.

In YA example of Edwin whining instead of doing actual product
research,

IOW, you wanted to prove you're a full of sh*t liar. Good job.

Apple did upgrade the HD; its now one of the new 5400rpm 2.5"
SATA drives, which as per techreport.com's WorldBench overall
performance summary, this class of drives overall performance is
roughly 95% the performance of a 7200rpm 3.5" Barracuda despite being
in a smaller, much lower power, form factor.

So instead of going with the 250 GB HD in my PC, I should have went
with the 80 GB HD of a Mac Mini, that's at least 5% slower than my HD,
for the same price I paid for my PC? Bwa ha ha ha ha!!!

Can you point out anything on Apple's site that backs up your above
assertions, BTW?

Care to try to swing for "Strike 3" by complaining about the optional
dongle modem?

You mean other than the fact my PC has an internal modem included in
the price, and it isn't an extra box cluttering my desktop?

The fastball coming dead over the plate is in form of
the many sub-$25 DSL broadband offers that are replacing dial-up,
including Verizon's basic DSL which is now down to $15/month.

Bwa ha ha ha!!! Hot damn, you're a dumbass! If you actually had DSL,
as I do, you'd know those $15 deals are only three month or six month
sign up offers, the regular price is more like $40-$50 per month.

Whoooooooooooooooooooosh!

The point flies over your head again.

Next batter.

Too bad the little baseball game playing out on the back of your
eyelids has no resemblence to anything in actual reality.
