Hi folks. I upgraded to 10.4.5 last nite and then inserted my boot
disc and tried to verify the volume, repair permissions, stuff like
that. Well, that was a big mistake.
Immediately, the volume was corrupt and disk utility said as much. I
was verifying permissions/repairing them when I took a break to come
back to a frozen screen saver.
I called Apple support and they tried troubleshooting with me, but we
weren't successful. The system could not be repaired.
I have a TON of time invested into this system. A lot of it is backed
up, but stuff like folders in iTunes - that alone took me days worth of
work.
Is there any way of recovering this thing? Would Disk Warrior help?
If so, how?
I really need help. I haven't experienced anything like this before.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.
When you start up wiith the original boot disk, does it see your hard
drive? If so, then the drive is working. If that is the case, I would
install just the system onto the drive. Then, upgrade as usual (through
the Software Update control panel). If the boot disk doesn't see the
hard drive, you may have a bad drive, and you are probably screwed.
DiskWarrior (or TechTool) is probably a good thing to have on hand
(makes note to self-buy it!), as it may allow the disk to be repaired
when the Apple Disk Utility doesn't. BTW, I thought you could only
repair permissions on the start up drive.
HTH.
