Only in emulation. It will likely be that way for a year or two. He's
better off with the PPC version in the here and now.

Only in emulation. Most apps will have to be re-compiled for the Intel
processor before they will run natively. The new Intel Macs WILL run
most current titles in emulation, but there will be a performance hit.
How big a hit will depend on the app. Apparently, there's not much of a
hit at all with MS Word, but a fairly significant hit running Photoshop.
