Re: CSMA's REAL Troll of the Year Award

Muahman - He gets my nomination. Despite using the somewhat tired tactic of 'Hey, now I'm a Mac user, too!' as of late, I'm going with Pratt based on variety and sheer tenacity. Having dumped much of his former goofiness and being generally more creative than his current crop of peers, nothing gets this troll down. Pratt takes everything thrown at him in stride and cheerfully pops back up like one of those old kiddie punching bags (you know, the ones that have sand in the base). He may periodically use old gags but he gives them his own little twist.

Zara - If you like this trolling style (can it even be called a 'style'?) have at it, but... personally, I find 'under the radar' trolling a bit unappealing. Either *** or get off the pot! Zara can't make up his/her/its mind exactly what kind of troll he/she/it wants to be. Continued indecision will keep Zara from the top of the heap.

Tom Elam - What can I say... consistency is the word here. This man is consistently boring and unimaginative (sorry Tom, it had to be said again). You could be much better because you're are naturally the kind of person others love to hate. You're just not using all your tools, pal. With that said... I have to look at his ability to stir things up with his silly bull***. If this were just a numbers game you'd be right there, Tom.

Edwin Thorne - Fallen from grace, this perennial favorite is now too interested in actually discussing real computing issues to be considered at the top of his game any more. He is one of those guys that can be a sleeper, though... so keep an eye out (there's always next year, Eddie).

Josh McKee- Sticking with his 'I've always been a Mac advocate' routine still seems to hook more for Josh than he deserves... he just gets too personal with it and loses momentum quickly. Realistically, he's not here enough to pose any real threat but he does posses an abundance of admirable troll traits like context muddling, outright denial of reality and strawman building. Majoring in bait and switch with a minor in red herring tossing, maybe things will look up in 06 for this troll.

Nashton - Utilizing the fence sitting Mac poser theme, Nic hasn't been around much lately, but even when he is, it's basically only as a 'me too' kinda troll. I think ol' Nic knows he is outclassed every step of the way so he just doesn't put too much effort into it. That's OK, Nic... like a character actor is to Hollywood, a newsgroup will always need some trolls on the periphery and you'll always fit that bill.

foo - Like Mckee, he's just not here enough to be a serious contender. Dave does have gobs of untapped potential, though... he can get under the skins of a pile of Maccies within a post or two without breaking much of a sweat. If he decides to hang out Pratt could have his hands full as foo busts loose.

Mayor - I guess no list is complete without this dinosaur... though, I really can't see him garnering many votes for 2005. Sorry, Clyde... you're gonna have to work a LOT harder if you're ever gonna make the show again. Put your New Year's plans on hold and hunker down with a fresh game plan. I suggest you ride Pratt's coat-tails for awhile to see what today's stars are up to... otherwise... it's time to put you out of our misery. Oh... I suppose there might be a place for you alongside Nic... you could play Stumpy to Nic's version of Dude (Rio Bravo)... but you'll both have to step it up a bit as there appears to be some new young trolls in town.

Snit - If we were voting on the best chocolate, a vote for Snit is like a vote for a turd that accidentally fell into the box. He's really more of a cancer on the NG than he is a troll. I only mention him because he spends so much time trolling, or... should I say... anti-trolling. A good troll hooks lots of people with few words. Though his list is growing, Snit engages relatively few people (the few that haven't yet kf'd him) with LOTS of words. We'd really have to create a special category for him... like a form of Special Olympics or something.

(Hands folded behind back, shuffling toe in the dirt...)

How come I never make any of these troll lists? ...:sniff::

I feel so left out...

;)
