suncomm, drm, intel

After reading about Michelle's problems with sony CDs I came across some references to mysterious DRM components in the developer seeds of OSx86, and I think there is a lot more going on than we are being told about (as usual with greedy corporations with an agenda other than serving their customers well).

I would tell you if I could see the files. After removing the obvious stuff that SunnComm installed, I cannot see the disk image that OS X makes of the CD with the .aiff files.

Not exactly correct. The software may not completely work, but something is not right.
When you "install" the software, ie: run setup.app... the behavior is as described earlier. The software does at least two things. The first is to change the way that OS X sees certain music CD's. I have given two examples. The second is a control interface that basically acts as a "gateway" for the content on the CD.
Whatever the mechanism is that interferes with the way OS X sees certain CDs works. The gateway software does not.
There is no uninstall routine for this stuff. Removing the M4 software and the kernel extensions does not remove the problem.
Have you had a chance to check this out for yourself, or are you just going off what you are told?

Her experience seems to show that thought the software 'doesn't work', and isn't installed by default, it does do /something/ when installed. This might tie in with what people are claiming to have found in the OSx86 versions they've been playing with.
See: http://www.boingboing.net/2005/07/31/apple_to_add_trusted.html and http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/08/01/0421248&tid=179
I can't find much more recent news (rumours).
If the real reason for going over to intel is as I suspected: the DRM, then it's quite possible that apple is already co-operating with the low-life and the Sony DRM is a comparable beta to tie in with OSx86. If the Hollywood whores are going to give it a try out via apple, as the music macs did before, it stands to reason that dirty business of some sort would be in the works already.
Regardless of this partcular instance, it all looks like a compelling argument for open source over closed, proprietary software. Sadly it takes a lot of work to 'own' your system though, so the future doesn't look promising. (make us your slaves but feed us, as my favourite Dostoevsky line goes)
Anybody have any ideas/more recent info?
Andy .
