OTOH, Apple embraced it, so no biggie.
Just a reminder to one of the hard-headed bozos of this ng, immoutahere,
who thinks nothing good ever comes out of Wintel land.

In your less than one-cell brain, you do remember that Macs are moving
to Intel next year, perhaps about the time this gets well-implemented.
You seem to have missed the point, as usual, Jim.
The innovation and leadership of the computer market is with Wintel, not Apple.
Haha, that's so funny because it's so absurd!
How's that floppy drive going, Edwin? :)
Hey Loopy, what type computer is this going to appear in first, a PC or a Mac? Who invented it, Apple or Intel?
Better connect your printer to that parallel bus, Edwin! Quick! And remember to plug that PS/2 mouse and keyboard in *before* you boot your PC, or they won't be recognized!
Who uses PS/2 devices these days?
I'd say most Windows PC users still use PS/2 mice and keyboards as Windows support for USB is still not complete, apparently.
Huh? I've been using USB mice and keyboards for years on my PCs. I've never had a problem. The Mac, on the other hand, when hooked to a USB KVM switch goes bonkers when it's not switched to the mac when booted up. It resorts to 640x480 resolution, and the mouse gets REALLY whacko.
Windows machines still won't see a USB mouse/keyboard if they are plugged-in after the machine boots, and if you are using two machines and sharing a USB Keyboard, USB Mouse, and a monitor between the two via a KVM switch, and if you switch away from a Windows machines and it goes to sleep while you are switched to the other machine, when you switch back to the Windows box, you'll never get it wake up because it will never see the USB mouse/Keyboard again. You have to reboot to get it working or keep a PS/2 mouse connected to the PC at all times.
Umm, I've had a USB KVM switch for going on 2 1/2 years now at home, and at work. It works flawlessly. Your problem may have something to do with a BIOS setting. I've never had to fiddle with mine one bit to work properly.
My Mac doesn't care where the KVM switch is set, it works perfectly and ALWAYS comes to life when one switches back to it from the other computer. The PC, OTOH, never queries the USB ports again,
This is incorrect. That might have been 98's behavior, but both 2000 and XP handle this flawlessly.
I'm running XP. It works just like 98SE in this regard on my PC.
I remove USB input devices from this box, while it is running Windows all the time. Never have I needed to reboot for the devices to be detected again. Neither did I have a problem waking the system when doing so.
