I don't know of ANY PC seller with or without an Nvidia card that won't
play DVDs outof the box. Can you name one? The only way to have no drivers
or software is to buy OEM cards that are mean to be included in systems that
will later have the sofware insalled via download.

Then you have a rare computer and you shouldn't buy from them. It's very
rare for any computer not to play DVDs out of the box. Even Linux boxes will
play decoded DVDs out of the box. Apple just installs the software for you.
This is not anything exceptional or great, lots of companies install the
software for you.
