This probably is a common problem but I don't know where to get any
information on it-- my Dell D610's push stick is sometimes either
stuck and too hard to push or it makes the cursor run wild across
the screen. I've tried cleaning around it, and that sometimes helps
but the problem still remains. Does anyone know what causes this,
or how to fix it?
Ron
I don't know why they do that Ron? Some last 10 years or more without
any problems. Some do that within a week after getting it. And one
was working fine until I used compressed air to blow out the fan and
the keyboard. Then only the stick started to act up.
I never tried to fix them, instead I just change out the keyboard
with another one with a stick. I don't know about a D610, but lots
of them can be found on eBay brand new for 20 bucks or less.
Crap... Oh, well; I think I like using a mouse anyway. For that same
$20 I could probably get a decent wireless mouse from Radio Shack.
Thanks, Bill.

Yup, a mouse is hard to beat! But say, Toshiba says to let it run (the
stick without touching it) and allow it to recalibrate. This takes about
2 seconds and then it stops. If you fight it, then it won't
automatically calibrate. Is it okay if you leave it alone? If this is
what it is doing, this is normal from those sticks. How often does it
needs to recalibrate? I am not sure, more than once per hour sounds like
a lot to me.

Hmmm, this happened once or maybe twice before and after a while,
things went back to normal. But now it's beginnng to get so out of
control, I sometimes can't even move the thing: the cursor would go to
the top of the screen and stay there. If I kill the power (including
pulling out the battery) for an hour or so, the pointing stck might go
back to being useful for a while but it can be stuck for quite a
while.
I had a wireless mouse because the stick once went ballistic before,
but the mouse's transmitter got damaged and I went back to using the
stick. Lol. I forgot the reason I gave it up in the first place but
now it's acting up all over again and now I do remember. So when I buy
a new mouse, I won't ever go back to the stick. It's too unpedictable
and even when it's working fine it's more difficult to use than a
mouse.
