So at anytime, shutdown is instantly as you just can pull the plug if
you would like. As it doesn't change or write anything anyway (unless

now AJL, 0 seconds to shutdown and 30 seconds to boot doesn't sound
too bad at all. Now does it? <grin>
That would be true *if* speed was the only reason I used hibernation.
But I also use hibernation as a 'no power needed' bookmark which is
the purpose for which I think it was intended. I generally read
several newspapers and keep up with several forums. So on average I
keep open 2 browsers (with various open tabs), a newsreader, and an
mp3 player. Often when I need to quit in the middle of things I just
hit the off button (which is programmed to hibernate). When I return I
hit it again and in around 13 to 20 seconds (depending on what's
loaded) I'm right back to the same place I was. It would be a royal
pain for me twiddle my thumbs for a minute and a half waiting for
hibernation to recover. It would be a bigger pain to reboot, reload
programs, and try to remember where I was. Just another reason why
I'll not buy another machine with an SSD until things improve (which
they surely will)... ;)
Not necessary. So you forget about EWF for now (it is really handy as a
read only device). And you can set Windows to hibernate when you close
the lid. Who cares if it takes two seconds or one minute (which it does
with 1GB of RAM). You don't care since you are not using it anyway. And
the next time you want to use it, it takes only 30 seconds (or less) to
boot up.
Not quite hard drive speed, but hard drives can't be moved or knocked
around while they are running either. Yet SSD can be ran while taking
off of the Space Shuttle for heavens sake. I always worry about moving a
hard drive while it is running. This isn't true when running from the
SSD. Thus I can be truly portable. And this to me is a *super* big plus
on the SSD side. <grin>
