I've been down because my usual newsgroup server won't let me log on,
and finding another free server that would let me post was not easy.

I'm pretty well settled with the Aspire One except that I have not
figured out how to back the unit up. It has a recovery partition, and
that works well enough as long as it (and, by implication, the drive
itself) are intact. But the documentation says it can make backup
media however it can't (it appears that this program and it's
documentation are "Acer-wide", but the version on the Aspire One
Netbooks has had all capability to write removed).

I did open the unit and upgrade the memory from 1 to 1.5 gig, which is
the max.

I have backed up the hard drive (both the restore partition and the XP
partition) to a Drive Image file, but I'm not sure how I could restore
the recovery partition if the hard drive were to fail.

Overall, I'm very happy with the netbook.

Yes Teranews is just terrible. I'm sorry I ever sent them any money. And
I second Motzarella. One of the best free servers out there. I don't use
binaries, so I can't help you there.

To backup my many netbooks, I use BartPE on an external hard drive or
from a flash drive. And I have Ghost v11 installed on there. And I save
a Ghost image to either flash or an external hard drive. It takes about
10 minutes to backup or restore. And yes, I have tested restore many
times and it works just fine for Windows. It was working for Linux too,
except the last time it failed and the Xandros Recovery instantly kicked
in and restored my Xandros to day one without asking.
