Wow! Has others experienced the same poor media performance fromJust for fun, I've booted up Livestation player (livestation.com) and
their Atom processors too?
it's playing streaming NASA TV from the Space Station EVA,
perfectly...while....I have VLC playing a 733MB full length, high
resolution DivX movie from alt.binaries.movies.divx stored on my C:/
drive, simultaneously. Booted is also Process Explorer to show all
the various programs and system files running back there in the box.
Livestation is rendering the TV stream using my default player, which
is VLC, not Win Media Player.
This is causing my Samsung NC10 Atom-powered 1.6Ghz netbook with the
533Mhz motherboard to consume between 77 and about 83% of the CPU
cycles.....and both playing, including stereo sound on the movie, is
running smooth as silk....(c;]
The NC10 is simply an amazing little 2 pound box....
Oh, it's booted to WinXPSP3 for this test, the one that came on it. I
haven't tried it booted up to Ubuntu Linux, but that should be fine
also.
I don't have OS X on it....
The processor fan is running.........not good for battery runtime
with all this decoding/rendering going on.....
Ah... thanks Larry! I thought the Atom processor should be able to handle it. Maybe AnonDelMundial has some things running in the background. I had one program that I rarely ever use that causes the video to become choppy every 5 seconds or so. One of those system monitor type programs I believe it was.
Nope. Nothing running in the background at all. I mentioned that I turn off all eye candy; I also terminate autostart of anything non-essential.
I really tried to get my wife to like the Acer mini. It has the best peripheral support. It had the best sound, and better video performance than the HP mini 1000 and the Sony P. The Acer still presented videos in fits and starts with video that I deliberately stalled until the video streams had been fully downloaded.
