Jumping cursor ? ? ?

I have a six-year-old laptop, and the cursor suddenly jumps about. I thought it might be the touchpad, but when I turned off the pad, it still jumps.

The next suspect was the keyboard. Thinking it may have gotten trash under it, I vacuumed the keyboard, and to my surprise pulled out quite a bit of short hairs -- the kind that probably came off the back of hands over the years. I think the cursor-jumping problem might be improved, but it still exists.

The problem occurs only sporadically. I don't want to sound paranoid, but I wonder if someone may be trying to hack my computer. I live in a densely populated area, where I can see a number of other Wi-Fi signals. My wireless router is unsecured -- there's nothing of any value that could be accessed on the two laptops that use it. I know that computers can be operated remotely -- I've had it done by service people in India.

Any thoughts welcome.
