There are people who keep boxes (not just for laptops) and people who
don't. And never the 'twain shall meet.
I used to keep boxes for everything, but it got just plain silly. I
couldn't move for boxes. I now have to rationalise my box keeping habits.
They are now confined to items that really need specialist packaging for
return or shipping anywhere (such as a laptop), or where the item has
bespoke interface leads (like most camcorders do) and the leads would
otherwise get lost or difficult to identify.
Anything else gets trashed.
