Good thinking, but you might want to verify that drivers exist for your
Vista to XP transition. Newsgroups and forums are replete with whining
about the lack of XP drivers *after* making an un-researched XP install.

Fortunately, this is a business grade laptop (cost US equivalent of $3200
less than a year ago and Sony do provide XP drivers now, although they
did not at the time of purchase.
I can only assume a sufficient number of business users who buy high-end
laptops are not happy with Vista. I'm using mainly Solaris now, which is
great valu as Sun will send you a DVD with it for zero cost - not even
postage!!!
Many companies take the issues of security and compatibility very seriously
and will only deploy systems that they can almost guarantee to be secure.
They may well have not adequately evaluated Vista yet.
Also some business areas can only use systems that are approved by the
government. As yet, the government prohibits the use of Vista.
