I regard the Sony T series as the gold standard for ultraportable
notebooks. Expensive, though. My old TR is still going strong, just
needed one third-party battery. You might do better, especially for
the price. Check ASUS, also.

For light weight and long battery life, I really like PDA (aka handhelds) computers. My PDA is about 9 years old now (Palm IIIc). And it gets 12 hours or more per charge. Modern day PDAs shouldn't have any problems with voice recognition for dicatation. Just my 2¢ worth.
