I've got a Chinese exchange student staying with me for the school
year. Whenever he plugs into the home network (with a cable or through
the wireless), he takes down the wireless signal on the router (a
little Qwest 2700HG-D). It doesn't go down immediately. Rather, it
appears to work until he logs off. At which point the wireless signal
is hosed enough that nobody else can log in without first reseting the
router. It's really weird. What would cause this?

His laptop is a MacBook (fairly new) with an illegal copy of WinXP, a
slew of spyware, Xunlei Thunder, Bitcommet, Skype, QQ, TaoBao, and
what appears to be a virus associated with "bysooe.dll". (I can't find
much on the internet about bysooe.dll.) I can't install any MS stuff
because his copy of WinXP won't validate. I'm in process of teaching
him words and principles like "copyright" and "illegal," but he had no
clue his copy of WinXP or any of his DVD downloads off of GuoGuo were
illegal or what that even means.

If he has a hold of the illegal copy, he can just re-install it to get
rid of the spywar, etc..

I mean to get rid of virus. But it will come back..

At his university, he may be able to get an XP for $5.00 to $15.00. I
got XP Pro for $5.00 at the university I was at but it was for those
of us majoring in programs form computer scince department. Then,
when taking a VB.Net prgramming class at a local community college
here, I got an XP pro for $15.00 among other things.

Is there any help from the Chinese government in getting him a legal
copy of WinXP?

No :)

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Now that Vista is out, XP might be cheaper to buy. He'd just need to
buy a legal copy but his budget would hurt.- Hide quoted text -
