The PCMCIA slot does not recognize any PC cards since I swapped the
motherboard. Everything else is working fine.

I tried swapping the PCMCIA drive and the slot still did not recognize
any
PC cards. The First PCMCIA drive does work in another A20 computer.

It seems like it's a defective motherboard, (just replaced), but the
*_PC-Doctor-test_* PCMCIA test says, 'All Tests Passed'.

The PC cards, (plural), that I'm inserting, previously worked on this
machine, and they still work on another A20m machine.

The cards do not light up, there is no insertion or removal sound and
no
notification with insertion or removal.

Ideas?

Thanks.

I concur with the defective motherboard theory. But just to be sure,
pull the pcmcia card reader and re insert it.

Thanks. I did the out-and-in-again before I actually swapped the pcmcia
card
reader with a known good reader from a working machine, and then also
tested
the non-working reader in a good computer and it worked there.

I've already ordered another motherboard. (just got off the phone.)

It's wierd that the PC Doctor pcmcia test passed.

It can often happen that the parts of the interface visible from the PC
buses work just fine, but either the actual drivers or receivers do not
function. The diagnostic software just checks the interface.

We use several (VME interface) boards in computer based racks that function
as far as the VME interface is concerned, but the actual business side is
non functional. We use them purely because they don't actually connect to
anything, but the operating software expects to find a card at its address.
