hp 9318 vista to xp

I just bought this dv9318ca laptop which comes with Vista installed thinking
I'd just wipe it and install XP - well, not a simple task - I've learned
that HP intends this to be used only with Vista and offers only a few
drivers for XP. I think I've got the basics working on xp (I bought xppro)
though it was a struggle - what a bunch of hooey - I'm so used to desktop
pcs that work with anything as long as you install the appropriate drivers -
just finding what hardware is in the laptop is a challenge in order to go
from there to acquire the right drivers - sound card is now working (the
biggest challenge so far) - haven't been able to verify the wireless or the
modem or the audio connections - just getting it to hook up to the Internet
was a challenge to get it to see the network port.
Anyone have any advice or horror stories?
Dave.
