Through the A/C port?
I have a bad A/C port and am wondering if I can supply power to my
laptop by some other means. Technicians tell me I have to replace the
mother board in order to fix my A/C port.
The only laptops I've had with docking stations haven't had an AC port per se. They've had an external 'brick' which connects to the mains with a LV DC output cable which plugs into the laptop. When using the docking station, the DC cable plugs into *that* instead, and powers the laptop through the docking connector.
I've never seen a laptop with A/C input. They all use DC from an external convertor box. I suppose you mean the power input.
The docking station on my Compaq EVO has an input for the power supply unit. I.e. with the docking station in place, I can connect the power unit either to the laptop, or to the docking station to power the whole thing.
Which laptop do you have?
