Does anyone know of a laptop with those two features built-in? I could and would go with a usb light if i could at least find a model with the hard volume control.

My Thinkpad has the light, but has 2 buttons for up and down volume. These are almost useless, because they are software dependent and hence operate from now to almost never as the processor load changes.

It is one of my biggest regrets that the old Acers, and one or two other makes had real volume controls, but I can't find any low-end (ie affordable) machines nowadays with this essential feature.

I also hate the lack of a knob for screen backlight brightness, but that's less essential than the simple volume control that works when you turn it, not when the software gets round to it.
