You should have no difficulty finding an aftermarket supply for a USB hub or card. The supply should be rated at 5 volts and 500 mA *per port* plus an additional 500 mA. Thus, for example, for a 4 port hub, a 2.5 Amp supply is required.
I think that a powered external USB hub will be the best bet, and is a bit cheaper than the CardBus card without an adapter. These are available for as little as $10.
Yesterday I bought a Compaq 4 port USB/2 port 1394 hub at MicroCenter for $20, including the power adapter and the two cables. See "http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0247236"
For portable use there are USB 2.0 hubs with built-in rechargeable batteries, but of course since they are charged by USB the amount of time that the ports could supply the maximum power is limited ("http://www.provantage.com/cyberpower-systems-cp-h420mp~7CYPR010.htm").
