Hello,
I would appreciate some help choosing a laptop for development.
The main use will be web site development using Visual Studio .NET,
SQL Server Management Studio and fair ammount of Photoshop/
Illustartor.
90% of the time the laptoop is plugged, so battery life is not a big
issue, but weight is.
I would prefer to have Core 2 Duo (double the cache of Core AFAIK).
Dedicated video card is irrelevant. 15" screen with XGA (1024x769)
would be ideal.
Another thing that is important is comfort when using in the lap. (I.e
heat and protruding parts).
I was lookig at Thinkpad T60, but a coworker warned me that there are
some quality issues with Lenovos
I have similar requirements. I have a T60p and no quality issues, but it is not a good "lap" laptop. It's a bit too thick and heavy, and more importantly too hot. I think it's the video card - good performance, but I don't play games so who cares. Also annoyingly, the docking station for it has a somewhat loud fan. I now use the T60p only for desktop use, and have reverted to my old T40 for mobile uses. It gets nearly double the battery life of the T60p.
The regular T60 (non-"p") might have a different video card and thus be a better choice, but I sure prefer the thinness of my T40 when using it in my lap.
