Now if you keep buying IBM machines and they don't last. Well if I were
you, I believe I would rethink the next time you buy a notebook. I
haven't heard that old IBM notebooks don't last, but one may never know.

Well, I'm buying mostly 4-5 year old used machines (off ebay), so
perhaps they are just near their end of life. I buy the models I buy
for two reasons. 1) They have uxga 1600x1200 screens (which is a
necessity for me, I can't get enough info to work effectively on a
smaller sceen). 2) they are roughly the same model they hand out at
work (but work only hands out xga 1024x768 units). So, to replace the
work unit which is unacceptable to me with my own unit without being
unduly conspicuous, I need to buy an ibm. I just don't want to pony
up the $3-5k for a new one. The last one I bought was newer and from a
refurbisher and comes with a 4-year warantee, so hopefully it will
last longer.

I am still wondering if there isn't a "cooler pad" that I could buy to
put under my laptop to wick away some of the heat and make it last
longer, or whether I should open the thing up (which I'm generally
loathe to do) and clean out some dust that may have accumulated in
there.

Thanks....
