Hi, I have a strange problem on my laptop. Whenever I try shutdown,
Windows shuts down fine, after the shutting down windows screen it goes
black and a normal computer would turn itself off, however on my laptop
the power indicator remains green (and so does the WLAN if I have the
switch to on) and then about a second or 2 later it boots up again.

The BIOS is up to date but pretty basic, can't change any power
settings like on a desktop, I have turned of all the 'wake on' features
I could find, I don't have Roxio 5 installed, it does this regardless
of battery/mains, and the same happens if I standby or hibernate, it
just turns on again. The laptop powers off fine if I just hold the
power button for a few seconds even though it isn't a proper shutdown
windows style.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great

thanks

First, turn off "reboot on error": System Control Panel, Advanced Tab, Startup and Recovery button. Now, an error will generate a BSOD screen from which you can copy down the *exact error message text* to help in diagnosing the problem.

Second, review Event Viewer System and Application logs: Administrative Tools Control Panel, Event Viewer for recurring errors that might be important to diagnosing the problem.

Third, google for the MS application uphclean.exe and install it. This is the user process hive cleaner that is recommended for solving many problems occuring at shutdown.
