Your description sounds like no backlight to the LCD screen, which would be very mild damage for a spill. It would also be extremely unusual, because the inverter is in the lid with the screen and when there are spills the damage is usually confined to the bottom part of the laptop. Let the laptop dry out (days, at least, possibly up to 2 weeks) and there is a chance that it will work again. There is no doubt that if water got to the inverter it would short out, but the damage might or might not be permanent. Even if it is permanent, as laptop parts go, inverters are relatively inexpensive.

My new laptop (Acer) just got spilled with water, and now the whole.
screen just turn black, though i can still see the tiny, bitty
images on the screen (like the normal Windows loading screen), but it
is just very dark and gloomy too.
When I power up the laptop, everything is still fine; like i still can
log in to the windows, shut down the computer and go into MyComputer,
but the screen is just VERY VERY dark, so, i wonder is there anything
that i can do to fix it?
Can please any of you profesionals out there help me out here?
that would be nice, thanks
