I don't agree that the warranties are necessarily, always, a rip-off.
Again, refer to my rules (2 & 3, especially). Now, as for a warranty
bought in violation of the rules, well .......
Hahahaha... I hope you are right Barry. I just bought a
refurbished Gateway laptop with an automatic 90 day only warrantee.
So far so good. It even smells like new. lol
By stroke of luck I've bumpled onto this post within the yes you can
still reply time limit.
I am having a problem with an HP Pavilian laptop bought new at Bestbuy
in 02/05-----officially 153 days out of the one year warrenty period.
I called their HPINVENT customer support line and made a purchase on my
card yestdeay....thus paper trail.
The machine runs so hot that the black box on the adappter that it is
actually hot...not warm to the touch.
In recent week or so, the under body of the laptop also becomes hot,
not warm to the touch.
I have not pursued samller signs with vigor.....but in the last few
days the machine fires up and shuts down....dead....prior to even
being able to get to the point of displaying the desk top. When
totally unplugged from everything for enough time to allow both of thse
areas to be cool to the touch, the machine will work again.....but
lenght of on time connection will vary from about 30 minutes to 4
hours.
As per telecom with HPInvent yesterday, I have purchased a replacement
adaptor/connector line/box and have payed to have it delivered within
tomorrow, Friday....since "this may be the problem".
Need your input......despite the expiration of the factory
warently.....if 17 months is past the "expected life of a $1600US
laptop......I am not going to be remotely amused.....and will be made
as hell re: relaying this sad story to everyone i know. In fact my
confidence in this highloy recommend company is currently very low.
I'm no techie...but this is my 4th laptop since 1990 setting up shop as
a professional in an area where a laptop is needed....I'm very, very
unhappy. 1st and 2nd were Toshibas, 3rd was Sony, this HP is # 4.
Second.....i have a vague memory that manufacturers have recently
recalled a batch of laptops for exactly this problem and specific
notice to be on the look out if these symptoms eventuate on your laptop
be aware that this can lead to a fire that can burn down your house.
Question ! to HPINVENT......has this or any other HP product been
recalled on this basis? Oh, no, never. Here are my symptoms,
model/serial # etc.......what can you recommend to address this or will
i be horrifiwd to learn that I'll need to be bying an new laptop this
weekend? Oh.....well may be it's the cord, or maybe it's the
computer.
At this point in my career.....gracefully as possible easing into early
retirement.....the machine has rarely eve left my desk. I don't think
I've taken it out of the house at all since purchase.
HELP! Please! Your opinions/suggestions/wisdom and general hand
holding will be greatly appriciated by aging babyboomer recovering from
long illness and eager to jumpstart back into actively recruiting new
clients.
Thanks and regards,
Maggie
pretty distressed at this point.
