Dell 75UYF Back From Dead

I've managed to bring my Dell 75UYF battery with the infamous LED 1,3,5
blinking sudden death syndrome back from the dead. All I did was open
it up, disconnect the cells from the "smart" circuitry for a few
minutes by cutting one wire, put that wire back together, and it now
charges. I must have reset Dell's "planned obsolescence" circuit.
However, when I press the status button, LEDs 1, 3 and 5 still blink,
and the LED on the laptop still flashes 4 amber, 1 green, even though
if I ignore the LEDs, the battery works perfectly. Even the charge
meter is as accurate as it ever was. Anyone else have similar success
stories or know the mechanism behind this working?
