Toshiba Portege 7100 won't wake up

My normally very dependable Portege just started acting up after I gave
its keyboard a good cleaning with compressed air. As soon as it's
finishing booting up and the first flash of the desktop becomes
visible, the screen goes black and the "On" LED starts flashing slowly,
as if it's gone into hibernation. It does this even as booting finishes
in the Safe Mode, and even when using the Win ME (which is what it runs
on) floppy.
Suggestions anyone?
Dan
