Thanks for the info Quaoar. I'll have a look at the keyboard removal
guide.
The reason that I think that it's a loosely connected cable is that
there is no problem with the backlight when the laptop screen is at a
certain angle. If the laptop screen is within two to three inches of
the closed position, there is normal video. When I bring the laptop
screen to a higher postion, the backlight goes off. If I look closely,
I can see video but with no backlight not much can be seen.
Furthermore, as the laptop heats up I can move the screen back and
forth and the normal video will return. The problem is that this takes
a long time and I never get normal video when the screen is in a fully
upright position.

I have a Gateway Solo 1450. I believe that the cable for the backlight
has become disloged. I would like to open the case and reinsert the
backlight cable to it's socket. However the case will not open. I
have removed all visible screws and checked it many times over to make
sure that all screws are removed. I've also removed the hard drive.
Something directly behind the hard drive interface appears to be stuck
to the casing so it will not open. I've pulled it up as far as I can
without braking something.
Does anyone know what may be attached to the casing without screws so
that the case cannot be opened?
Thanks.
You are going about this incorrectly. See the keyboard removal guide at

It is unlikely the any cable is loose. It is more likely that either
the backlight or high voltage inverter has failed, and these are
accessed by removing the screen bezel.
