dk_ wrote:I did all of the above, with no joy.The problem...Google win98 wireless to find many links to making wireless on Win9x work. I would start with the router setup: broadcast ssid, disable WEP/WPA. Set the router to broadcast 801.11g only and set the card for -g only. You might change the channel to 9 or 11 to reduce the possibility of interference causing the card wireless to hunt among wireless networks. Set the card to infrastructure only. Does the wireless software you use run in the background? Can you see the signal level and signal/noise ratio in real time with the software?
I can release an renew the ip address (I get a proper 192.etc, address), but only very rarely can I connect to the router and or the internet.
The machine is an IBM A20m running windows 98SE, 802.11g AirLink PC card
I had the same problem with different brand PC cards.
I have reinstalled the OS, the PC card adapter software, the PCMCIA socket (Texas instruments). Only occasionally can I get the connection.
Oh, and I swapped out the PC card slot assembly.
I have no anti-virus running, and no firewall software.
The network port works fine when I have a cat5 wire attached.
I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with very patient AirLink support, and hours trying to sort it out myself. :(

Thanks.

Also note, I can release and renew the ip, but pinging the router times out, and pinging the computer from the router fails.

Check this in TCP/IP settings: Properties, Advanced button, Options tab, TCP/IP Filtering button: make sure all Ports and Protocols are set to Permit All instead of Permit Only... and then disable filtering. If you have a software firewall, then check that your LAN is recognized and in the trusted zone.
