Need to buy a laptop that is Vista Premium Ready as distinct from Vista
Capable.

HP technicians say they only have Vista Capable laptops and the
displays in Office Depot and Staples support this.

Talked to Dell via telephone and was told that Inspiron 6400, 9400,
XPS, Latitude D620, D820 and others are Vista Premium Ready. But I
can't see anything about that on the Dell site. Reluctant to believe
it.

What real options are there at present?
Thanks

I ran the advisor from Microsoft.
What I found of potential interest is that I would need to get
a 'Toshiba Mobile PC Driver' most likely from Toshiba.
So I would need to get into contact with Toshiba to install Vista.

Take that with a dose of salt. The upgrade advisor seems to be early
beta.
Told me to replace my Radeon 9800 with an older model. <g>

I might be naive but to me the 'toshiba mobile pc driver' is a major part
of the
software.

If Toshiba made the chips that went into the machine it would be. As it is
they buy them from the same places that Dell and Gateway and Sony and Joe's
Strip-Mall Whorehouse and Computer Store buy them from and they generally
work fine with the drivers provided by the chip manufacturers. The major
difficult is generally wifi--if the machine has a broadcomm chip getting
drivers may be a problem.
