Re: Opinions on the Following Alienware Specs (Also Cooling on Alienwares?)

First of all, sorry if I sound like a grumpy old man ;)

I am in the wonderful position of having a respectable budget for a new
laptop. Anyone care to comment on the following 3 specs from Alienware?
I lean towards the first (MJ-12 m7700a) but would like to hear some
opinions before deciding.

As for the m7700, this isn't a laptop - it's a desktop stuffed into a tiny
package. It weighs 12½ pounds!!! It's not a desktop replacement, it IS a
desktop computer (even has desktop processor == noise and heat). You will
seriously regret buying that, I promise you. You can get MUCH more bang for
the buck with a desktop computer, and it'll be less noisy, too. The m7700
is barely draggable, let alone portable. You're not going to carry this
around for long. If you have that kind of money, you have enough for a
desktop with similar specs and a truly portable computer in addition, to
carry around with you ;)

At 8½ pounds, the m9700 might just pass as a portable (although
still "draggable" in my world), so it's much closer to being a
real "desktop replacement". If it were my choice, I wouldn't get either,
but if you want either, I'd suggest this one :)

Also, does anyone have anything to say about cooling on Alienwares?
Under even a mild work load, the underside of my piece of *** Inspiron
(which nobody should ever even consider buying --- you WILL have to
replace the motherboard at least once) would quickly get too hot too
touch for more than a few seconds!!!

I would imagine the m7700 to be even hotter, seeing as how it uses desktop
components. But I don't have any personal experience with alienware puters,
so that's just my guess.

Specs follow...

Thanks in advance.
