Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me. Since I am poor I must run constantly
behind technology. My current hand-me-down is a Sony Vaio PCG-FX250
Laptop that came bundled with Windows ME. I am living in Italy and took
it to a Computer Shop to have them put Windows XP Pro on it. What
happened was the driver for the built-in Coneexant-Ambit SoftK56 ICH
modem would no longer function. We went to the Sony website to down
load the driver, but it was labeled wrong and what we got was a sound
driver in disguise. I am surprised at how hard Sony is to get a hold of
as far as tech support goes. I am disappointed in the level of service
they provide.
The technician had a heck of a time finding any driver that would work,
and in the end found a generic driver that functions, but not as well
as it did with the original Windows ME driver. I have been looking for
answers but most of the strings are 4 year old by now. As I say I am
coming late to the party. I am wondering if anyone has found a more
current solution to this annoying driver problem? Thank you. Any help
would be appreciated. D. S.
You might not have the chipset drivers for the Intel mainboard installed. Although the softmodem is not integrated on the mainboard, if it does not have the correct chipset driver, the correct ICH softmodem cannot function. Check with your WinXP installer person.
