I have a Sharp Actius MV12W. We bought it used about 6 months ago. Last week it was running a
Norton Anti-virus system scan, and it just randomly shut off. I had
to push the reset button, then tried to turn it back on and within
two seconds it would just shut off again, no warnings. We let it sit off for a day and it stayed on for about 5 minutes then
shut off again. The longer we keep it off, the longer it stays on -
the most being 20 minutes. So we thought it was maybe the memory. It has two memory sticks, one
256 mb that is attached to the motherboard, and one in front of it
that was 512mb. We took the 512mb out thinking it was bad. Then
Tried the laptop, and it stayed on for two hours! We thought it was
fixed, but that same night while trying to load Windows XP SP2 it shut
off. Currently, it will stay on for 10-15 then shut off again. Do you think it could be the other stick of memory that is bad as
well? Or something more serious?

I doubt that either stick of memory of bad. It sounds like a thermal problem.
