If the sale tag says 'rebate', unless I absolutely must have it, I pass. If I 'must' have it, and it's a decent deal without the rebate, I don't bother sending for it.Last week I got a similar card from SanDisk, denying a $15 rebate. I called,
and the "card was sent in error". Looks like they are trying to get away
with something here. Might even be the same rebate processor.
It's going to be inherent in the business model of _any_ independent
rebate processor. They certainly aren't going to maximize their
profit by quickly and efficiently paying every rebate form that comes
their way. How far down the path of sleaze they will go "Nope, not
signed with your left hand in orange ink", or how much outright fraud
they'll try to commit "Let's see what happens if we deny everything
the first time, and only pay people who complain" is anyone's guess.
How about we all boycott rebate deals until they get honest? What's the point anyway? Think about it. It's almost got to be a scam; with manufacturers banking on not having to pay--at the very least--a large percentage of rebates. Now they're trying to renege on even the percentage of folks who actually mail in the rebate cards.
Otherwise, they'd simply lower the price. It would be simpler and less costly on their end to simply sponsor the discount...less paperwork.
