Domain networking is not supported on XP Home. You ***MUST*** upgrade to XP Pro to do what you want to do. The tech guy is right, and you are stuck with no real alternative in terms of connecting to the domain network.

Hi everybody,.
There is a laptop w/ xp home installed that i want to connect to my
work network. When i plug in the cable in the nic, it says obtaining ip
address with no packets being sent or recieved. I have a domain that i
am supposed to set as a setting but in xp home there is no place to set
it. But, i heard that xp home shouldnt affect it connecting to a domain
and using the internet. Finally, when it is done saying obtaining ip
address, it says limited to no connectivity with the ip address
starting with 169.xxx etc The tech guy says it needs xp pro but i dont
want to buy xp pro, and rather stick with home
