On Toshiba Portege 3505, I'm trying to defrag.
I get the message that "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is

Please run Chkdsk /f.
I went into safe mode and did a chkdsk. Then I tried a defrag again
and got the same message (while in safe mode).
I tried a chkdsk /f in safe mode and get message:
"The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive.

That aside, you might try the LOCK command and then UNLOCK afterwards.
Be aware that CHKDSK /F can cause problems. Try it without the `/F' switch
and see what the report says. Also, while in LOCK mode, try the defrag.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.
*** See if CHKDSK is in your start-up menu and what other processes are.
You might spot the conflict.
Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time
the system restarts? (Y/N). I said N.
I come back into normal mode and have the same problem.
*** You could say "Yes" and see what happens. SCANDISK is a better
program; I wonder why it wants to run CHKDSK.
