After a quick web search, it looks to me like your Toshiba takes a standard
2.5" hard drive, so any brand should work.
I recently paid $85 for a Fujitsu 40GB drive (model MHV2040AT), and am happy
with it so far...it's very quiet compared to the old 15GB IBM TravelStar
drive that was in there. That was the lowest price and smallest drive I
could find. (My laptop is 5 years old so I didn't want to spend much on the
upgrade.)
You'll have choices when you upgrade the drive: Capacity (e.g. 30GB, 40GB,
or more), spin speed (4200RPM, 5400RPM, etc.) and seek time (12 millisecond
or lower). The last two have a big effect on the data transfer rate of the
drive; higher RPMs and lower seek time are preferable. And if you're
concerned about the noise the drive makes, visit the manufacturer's website
and view the drive's specifications to see the published sound levels for
the model you're thinking about buying.

Can anyone help me out with finding a hard drive for a toshiba tecra
8200 PIII 850? All I need is something larger than 6gig.
What will fit in this laptop?
Where can I go to look at cross reference charts? Something that shows
what other laptop manufacturers hard drive will fit.
Or can I just buy some kinda one-size-fits-most drive?
Thanks!
