Hi Barry,
Thanks for the wonderful advice. I highly appreciate it.
I have a Clevo (called Cicero in Canada) Model D620S. IT is a 1.6 Ghz
Pentium 4 laptop with 256 Mb RAM.
If the "wiggling" does not work does that mean I will have to replace
the motherboard or is getting it the power jack soldered by a
professional a more vaible alternative ?
I have been trying to wiggle it for a week now. And no results so far.
Really liked the kind words.
Thanks again

In general, laptops can run with no battery installed from their AC
adapter. Try "wiggling" the connector from the the AC adapter in the
jack (slowly, as the light might take a few seconds to come on). It
sounds like a bad power jack, since it did work once.
Yes, it sounds like the battery is dead. But the laptop power light
should still turn on.
It would be better to identify the laptop model.
Although it's possible to get good laptop buys on E-Bay, you can also
get taken (badly taken ... quite a few laptops on E-Bay go for several
times to as much as ten times what they are worth even if working
perfectly).

Hi...
I have a laptop that i just bought second hand of e-bay. When i plug in
my power cord it does not show chargin. it showed that for about 30
minutes the first time i used the laptop and after than i have never
been able to run the thing on AC
now my question is follows:
1) Can laptops run directly on AC or do i need the battery in there
always?
2) If the Li-ion battery shows one flashin green LED at the back after
pressing the button (out of 4) does it mean the battery is dead
3) If the battery is completely dead (not capable of being charged
anymore) is the power light/charging of the laptop(symbol: =D) supposed
to turn on?
Thanks everyone in advance
Any troubleshooting tips would be sincerely and greatly appreciated...
