When you use the LCD, even with the DVI cable, are you certain that you are using a digital interface? Almost all DVI LCD monitors have both digital and analog capability. While the analog capability is normally driven through a separate 15-pin VGA connector, in some monitors it may be possible to drive the analog input through the analog pins of the DVI connector. If the computer had a DVI-I output (as almost all computer video cards with DVI connectors in fact do have), you would then effectively be connecting both a digital and an analog signal to the monitor, and would have to select digital or analog from a menu on the monitor.
