Yes, I realize all this. The computer is for a friend, not for me. I have
spent a little fortune on my computers (both a desktop and a laptop) and all
the peripherals and accessories. Even so, I considerable myself much more
knowledgeable about software than hardware -- and I know almost *nothing*
about low-end products. That's why I asked for some help here. The woman
in question already has a desktop at the office. However, she lives in a
tiny apartment and does not have room for a desktop there. Moreover, she
wants to take the laptop with her when she travels and would like to be able
to access the Internet and email when "on the road." All of this is also
why I asked whether her expectations are even reasonable. My concern is
that the price she quoted would get her a piece of junk, but I haven't kept
up with information in that area. I am aware that the same amount of money
would get a much better desktop than laptop (at least, that used to be
true).
