Let me add my little bit to the discussion. I had a Compaq notebook with
AMD Processor and the battery life with the supplied battery was useless.
It usually lasted somewhere around the 60-80 minutes mark, with the screen
brightness at its lowest (I could hardly see the thing) and I usually
resorted to plugging the mains power in (which isn't really what a laptop is
all about). To add to that it was heavy too. and it also seemed to be
constantly kicking in the cooling fans (which were quite noisy and no doubt
affected the overall battery life). As you can see I'm talking here in the
past tense, as I sold it a year or so ago.
