If you have no DVD playback software, you won't be seeing anything,
regardless of what machine you play it on, laptop or desktop. A DVD drive
will certainly start reading a disk inserted in it, but without the software
to interface to the display, you aint gonna see nothin'.
For seamless and fault-free DVD playback you need a robust processor, plenty
of RAM, and a decent video card in any computer. Any of the more recent
(made in the last two to three years) laptops and desktops with AMD or Intel
Pentium processors, 512 MB of RAM, and a 64 MB video card will be just fine.
In fact, I have a four year old ABS Awesome desktop with only a 32 MB video
card in it that runs DVD's with no problems.
Divx is a media player, just like Microsoft Media Player. Make sure you
have the latest version of Divx running for the best results. The DVD
player doesn't care what your display is. You may have to adjust the player
screen size to suit your tastes, however.
