Dell Inspiron 8000 video won't fit screen

Before someone says try the Fn+F7 I have tried that.
Let me explain, I have just replaced the inverter in this laptop
(Inspiron 8000) and the display is now working. It is working but the
display does not fit the screen properly.
Here is a picture of what I am talking about, in this pic you can see
even before I boot to windows it is not correct. See how you can not
read the words on the right hand side in the bios:

This is the next picture when it is in windows before I use the FN+F7
key combo. It is too small and not centered properly:

I then use the FN+F7 combo and I get this, it is too big and the task
bar is not even seen:

Resolution is set at 1024x768 and I have downloaded the proper drivers
per my service tag from dell.com. I have tried many resolutions but
none have made the screen proper size to fit it.
Does anyone know what would cause this and what the fix is.
thanks,
derek
