I don't know the history of the events you mention. Packard Bell now is
part of NEC, so one should view PB taking that into consideration.

Some of the PB laptops appear to be identical to some NEC models,
though I can't say whether or not ALL internals are identical in these
cases.

This is the sort of stuff that makes me laugh and wonder why people are
so stuck to their big brand names, even though there are thousands of
problems reported with them. My Packard Bell is running almost
flawlessly (one minor problem with the builting card-reader), and any
benchmarks I run return results that are appropriate for the equipment.

This conclusion is certainly untrue in Europe. Compare a PB to a
similarly equipped Sony or Toshiba and you will see that this is
plainly incorrect..

One can find reviews of PB laptops on some UK sites.
