1. An example. I bought an IBM Thinkpad 300 that's still in use today
and is over 6 years old. HOWEVER, the IBM Thinkpad T22 I bought didn't
make 4 years before I had to replace the motherboard. It appears that the
T22's had some problems. I guess my point is that even the best of them
can have a bad model run and there's no way of knowing if you got it or
not.
2. As far as common problems go, the batteries are at the top of list.
I've seen some die in less than a year. After that problems with the
display can develop. Image will start getting dimmer, pixels going bad or
just no image at all one day. Most of them are pretty durable however.
