Re: Acer Aspire 3500 Upgrades

Hi Matt,
You should be able to call or e-mail the store you purchased the
laptop from for support with these questions but since you haven't, we
would like to show you why you should have chosen us for your new
laptop purchase instead.
First of all, Kingston states the following on their site for your
laptop:
"Virtually any configuration up to 2GB can be reached using any
combination of Kingston's 256, 512MB, and 1GB modules."
This statement indicates that you should have no problem with just
one Kingston 1GB module. You should contact Viking / CompUSA to be sure
that they make the same claim. If what you have is supposed to be
compatible with your laptop, it also shouldn't hurt just to try it if
you are careful and follow the manufacturer's directions. Be sure to
save your original memory in an anti-static package if you do end up
needing to put it back in.
If there is a DVDRW drive available, you should be able to get it
by calling Acer directly for info or e-mailing us your laptop's
manufacturer number/UPC code and serial number. Either way, if we get
the part number for the laptop and/or drive, we can tell you if it, or
a replacement, is available. Note: Some Acer models are proprietary
when it comes to drives and third-party replacements probably won't be
available if this is the case.
Upgradeable batteries are fine and we can offer you the correct
one if available but you may also want to consider the following
product instead if you use the laptop in your car or travel by air
alot:

APC Travel Power Power Adapter AC/Car/Airplane AC 120V 75W 2yr.
Warranty

It will allow you to charge your existing laptop battery on the road as
well as provide power directly from the car, airplane, or AC outlet
available to you while traveling.
Finally, if you have "Shared video memory (UMA)" on the laptop,
such as the SiS M661MX, you will have trouble upgrading it. Check your
laptop's specs to see if this is the case. ( Just as a note, if you
increase your available memory, you will also increase the memory
available to be shared with the video, which should improve it. ) If it
isn't shared memory, you may be able to get a better video card.
Contact us if this is the case and we will offer you what we have
available.

Hope this helps,
Brad
